Desperate children can get shelter, food along with love and affection that they wish for, through the process of adoption. There may be many reasons behind adoptive parents which have driven them to adopt a child. They might not have children and might not have ability, medically, to have their offspring. They might want to raise another child adding up to their existing family. They might want to give better life to the adopted child by adopting them and thereby educating and raising them. Many of the children who are adopted by the prospective parents are homeless and helpless. Such children might have been brought up in foster care till that time. Or they might have been abandoned till the time they have reached foster care.

Many children who have been adopted might not have in the formal education system. They might not be emotionally well, because of the reason that they are not attached to their families. Hence it is very much difficult to expect cleanliness and manners from these children. Many prospective parents who have adopted a child will be facing problems in the early stages because of the reason that they are not well acquainted to live in families and that they don’t know how to be tidy and maintain hygienic values. Some children will be having the feeling of living in a new environment and hence may not get well verse with the prospective parents soon. Adoptive parents should spare time and have patience in teaching about the ways to be tidy and to maintain one’s own hygiene, to these children. When the child is adopted at smaller ages, it is easy to teach hygienic principles and importance of being tidy. But in the case of older child adoption, the child will be with much of emotional baggage, might not follow to the tips given by the adoptive parents. Much care has to be taken by the adoptive parents in teaching their adopted child, about various hygienic necessities and importance. Adoptive parents can start with the topic of importance of bathing while teaching about the hygiene to the older child adopted. Explain the children about the ways to use the bathroom and to clean it up after being used. It is better to explain about these issues to the adopted child along with other children of same age group. In the case of older child, it is necessary to teach them slowly by explaining the necessity and importance in detail. It is not good to insult the adopted child in regards of hygiene, particularly in front of other children. This can cause negative effects on the emotional health of the child.
Adoptive parents should not criticize the work done by the adopted child but should explain them about the faults they have done in the process. During the starting stages of adoption, the adopted child will be feeling new to the environment and to the family. In such cases, it is not good to teach them rudely or much strictly, but should be done in lovable manner. These tips have to be followed in teaching hygienic values to the adopted child.
